Nyesom Wike

Wike has never practiced law for a single day.

He has never represented himself or anyone in court. He does not know what it means to burn the midnight candles studying and preparing for a case, stand before a judge to defend a client, or experience the pressure of winning or losing in court.

Yet, he publicly threatens to strip someone of the title of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a title earned through years of hard work, competence, and merit.

How was an individual of such ill repute appointed as a Life Bencher?

How did respected SANs and Benchers sit comfortably beside many distinguished legal minds, including Wike’s own wife who earned her legal accomplishments through dedication, and still decide to honor a man whose rise is associated more with political thuggery than legal excellence?

They honored a man who daily threatens the peace of this country, a man who should have used public resources to build low-cost housing for ordinary citizens, but instead prioritized luxury residences for judges. They literally honored a man who stole from the poor and gave them.

By doing this, they have only reinforced the impression that the judicial system is compromised and disconnected from justice for ordinary people.

If Wike is truly a reflection of what a Life Bencher represents, then even the Motor Park Association appears more honorable. Ironically, when a video of MC Oluomo surfaced showing him threatening people, though recorded in private, he publicly apologized. This is a man often criticized as an “agbero.” Somehow, he seems to be more honorable than the miscreant honored with a Life bencher.
